Many of you might contemplate on the subject of which English will be better for you to learn and why. Many prefer British English and American English and then some prefer global English which incorporates the attributes of both.
Well, we must admit that there are some differences related to spelling rules, grammar rules and of course accents and vocabulary as well. All you need is to just to understand the difference between them so that you can use it appropriately. Because if there are some differences in the English it does not mean that you have to learn them. We are so often exposed to the words that are differently used in both American and British English. In this situation the next question that comes to my mind is: Should I really care about the differences between American English and British English? It depends completely on the purpose of why you are learning English. The only situation when you have to take care of the differences is the English Exam. It means if you are choosing teaching English as your profession, then you have to understand and learn the difference between them. In a situation like this, you must focus on the spellings and grammar rules as this can simply affect your score in the exam. And just in case if you made a mistake, then it’s your reputation that gets wrecked and therefore it becomes important for you to not only learn the difference between them and also take care of them while you teach English. So, once you have understood the difference between British and American English, it is entirely your choice as to which English Courses you would choose for yourself. So the question still remains as to which one is right? Which one should you use? It's indeed a hard question to answer as you know your citation better than others. You ultimately have to make a qualified decision for yourself. If you think that you are going to live in an English speaking country.. Let's Say USA, then you should learn American English as this is going to help you communicate with others. Language helps incredibly to communicate with others and share ideas and problems. If you are in America and use American English then using American English would be a wise decision. However, if you are not going to live in America and it’s another country where English is not spoken or it’s not a native language then learning British would be a wise decision as it’s the British English which is mostly followed in other countries. Those countries use English grammar and spelling standards. If it is a strident challenge for you to decide which English would be better for you then you can opt to speak with both types of people and try to be conversant with them. While having conversation with them you would need to take care of standards of both and then you can evaluate which english is good for you to use and which one you are mostly comfortable with. It will surely be a good decision to focus on lessons, books and other study material that will be in one type of English. It will be less confusing while you learn it. Here is another fact that you can't learn just one and get away from the other one. Once you have learnt the first one, it does not mean that the other one has completely vanished from the world. If you are in this world, you are surely to face the other one in no time. So focus on either British or American English but remember that the other one exists. Also, you must understand that here one is not more important than the other. It is just that you make the decision to learn the one that you find relevant to your situation. You choose what simply fits into your format. As simple as that. If It’s American English that fits into your situation then it’s American English that you study first. Now the next thing that comes to my mind is: What should I choose for myself: Well I am from India and basically the people of India are following British Spelling standards and Grammar Rules, so I will choose British English for being able to build my career in India. If you are seeking to learn American or British English then you should join any good English institute in Mumbai India. They will not only train you in the English you want but they will also make you well aware of the difference between American and British English.
